The Teatro del Silenzio<\/strong> is an open-air amphitheater created by taking advantage of the natural shape of a hill near the town of Lajatico, in the province of Pisa.
The structure, inaugurated on July 27, 2006, was built at the request of the world-renowned singer Andrea Bocelli<\/strong>, who was born in this village.
\nAccording to the original idea, the venue was designed to be assembled and host only one performance per year<\/strong> (hence the name “Theatre of Silence”).
The construction consists of a circular stage<\/strong> several meters in radius, at the center of which stands an imposing sculpture<\/strong> representing a human face. The sculpture was created by Polish artist Igor Mitoraj<\/strong> for the scenography of Manon Lescaut<\/em> and was later donated by the sculptor to the theater\u2019s foundation.
\nSeveral granite blocks<\/strong> have been placed behind the stage to form a scenic backdrop.
On days when no events are held, the audience area is completely dismantled, and the stage transforms into an artificial lake<\/strong>.
